family, community, possibility
A traditional working-class community, El Sereno lies in the Monterey Hills that separate the city of Los Angeles from the San Gabriel Valley. Technically, El Sereno is a district of the city of Los Angeles, but really, El Sereno is a very unique and robust community that is somewhat quiet and largely undiscovered by non-residents.
Authentic, foods of many cultures are served in the area's colorful restaurants. In great proliferation are eateries specializing in cuisines from Mexico, Central and South America. Small businesses that focus on providing personal customer service line the streets. El Sereno may be one of the last places in Southern California, with nearby major urban conveniences, that still has somewhat reasonable real estate prices.
In El Sereno, you can step back to a simpler time when the American melting pot brought people together who were not only striving to succeed, but took the time to chat with a neighbor across a porch or over a fence. Customs and languages mingle to weave a unique tapistry of sights and sounds in El Sereno. Here, you may hear roosters crow at sunrise, see ice cream vendors traverse hilly streets with their carts on a hot afternoon, or hear fiesta music in the streets.
How convenient is El Sereno? It's ten minutes from downtown Los Angeles and ten minutes from the San Gabriel Valley.
In El Sereno a pleasant breeze flows through the hills. You can sense that in this sleeply little enclave, great food, family, community and possibility are in the air. |
